4.48 Psychosis Immersive Experience
An immersive experience design project based on 4.48 Psychosis by Sarah Kane. Often viewed as Sarah Kane’s suicide note, it discusses depression and anxiety, but the script is written to be fluid and open. It has no stage directions, no acts nor scenes, it never states what characters or even how many characters are in the story. This flexibility and uniqueness of the script are what inspired this immersive experience. This is a guided 1-to-1 immersive experience with six rooms in total, a starting reception area, a counselling room and four other rooms designed as homes, a private and safe space where people can express themselves freely. The design style is realistic, and colours are used to evoke the different atmosphere of each room. Except the reception area, each room has one actor and one audience each time and each room have a different actor. They are individuals with different gender, age, and appearance but all play the same character. The aim of this experience is to raise awareness of how anyone can be struggling with mental health, visibly or hidden. Each actor the audience meets represents one of those who are struggling within the larger population.
