This is the set designs for the opera Porgy and Bess. I often design my sets in a naturalistic and realistic style, but in this project I wanted to try designing an abstracted set with the aim of allowing the actors to interact with the set instead of having the set just sitting there and the actors acting around it. I imagine the windows and doors being mobile, allowing the actors to freely move them around while they act. The barrels and crates are there for the actors to use as tables, steps and seats, forming the stage while the performance goes on. These are the costume designs for the opera Porgy and Bess. I was heavily inspired by the paintings of Jonathan Green which were very vibrant and colorful. I wanted the costume to be full of color to express the high-spirited and up-beat melody of the songs in the opera even though the characters goes through some though times. ‍
