I have always heard of rumors about the Kowloon Walled City in Hong Kong from my parents ever since I was a child. I was told it was a place that you would never ever want to set foot in, a dangerous place full of criminals that even the police was scared to go in, a maze that you’ll never see the sky again once you get lost. However, after listening to the stories of a friend of my mother who was born and raised in KWC, I learnt something very different. That it was actually a very friendly and intimate community, even though the living condition was terrible. Inspired by her story, I decided to show the close-knitted community in KWC behind its ill reputation. I analysed the results from my research and stories from former residents of KWC and created this model for a stage performance of the stories I found.
